Literary critic, editorialist, and translator; born in 1951 in Kamichli, Syria. He translated several works into Arabic, including Montgomery Watt's "Islamic Political Thought," Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," S. H. Hooke's "Middle Eastern Mythology," Edward W. Said's "Afterwards to Orientalism." He writes extensively on modern Arabic literature, especially poetry and fiction. He is a regular contributor to Al-Quds Al-Arabi (London), Le Nouvel Afrique-Asie (Paris), An-Nahar (Beirut), and Al-Karmel (Ramallah, Palestine). He lives in Paris, France.
